Right off the bat, I'd like to say I won't be posting this frequently on this blog after this weekend. I had an unusually long weekend here and, you know, the leisure time to start this blog and then write multiple posts about Caesars which, I realize, is a ridiculous way to spend your free time.
I had the opportunity to drink a Caesar today and my first thought was "review!" but then I felt slightly nauseated at the idea of forcing myself to drink more clam/tomato/booze juice for this project and I stuck with cheap white wine instead.
However, while scrolling through pictures on my phone I saw a picture I'd taken the day after my birthday and remembered the Caesar I had at Brickyard Pizza. (Yes, I have pictures of Caesars I've known and loved. No, I don't have children. Did I mention I have the time to write an incredibly vapid blog....?) I've had Caesars at Brickyard since, and I was very pleasantly surprised by the calibre of cocktail I received, so why not do a review?
It was a 'jeez, I'm old' kind of day, the morning after some tame birthday revelry and I went to Brickyard to grab a bite. I always forget they are licensed and ordered a gin Caesar when I realized it was an option.
The woman who made it totally nailed the drink. A perfect blend of Clamato, Tabasco, Worcestershire, horseradish and gin. A standard celery salt rim and two pickled beans topped it off. As far as classic Caesars go, this is about as good as it gets. It gently eased my hangover.
Since then I've gone back and had Caesars made by the same woman with similar results. It seems like the quality of the cocktail depends on which staff member makes it though. I had a pretty brutal effort a couple weeks ago that was simply gin and Clamato over ice.
So, when Brickyard gets it right, it really gets it right. When it doesn't, it's pretty yucky. I say order one and hope for the best. There's probably a sixty percent chance of success.
Sidenote: this weekend I watched the film "Chef" which I really enjoyed. You should check out the movie, but also the soundtrack.
