Hey you, it's been a minute.
Summer has been rolling along real fast in my world. But of course, I'm making time for Caesars ... just not the blog ... Time to catch up!
Last month, something unique bliped on the Hail Caesar radar. Kettle Chips developed a Caesar flavoured chip for summer! Naturally, I had to try it. The good folks at Kettle Chips sent me a box to taste test, which I enjoyed and passed around the office to get some feedback.

They arrived in an excellent Caesar themed box. Dr. Roommate shook her head a little bit about how I live my life, but played along and tasted the chips with me.
The actual Caesar taste is pretty close to the real thing. They captured the umami and tomato essence and didn't venture into weird faux-seafood territory. A few people mentioned similarity to ketchup chips. Everyone was satisfied that the clam notes were downplayed on the chips. The celery salt element is very present and perhaps the only thing that prevented me or my colleagues from scarfing down large amounts of the chips.
I think these would go well with a nice summery lager if you are looking for an interesting snack.

Once the chips were all taste-tested. I asked the company a few questions about the flavour.
Hail Caesar Victoria: I thought the chips were pretty close to a Caesar and I imagine getting the clam notes right would be the most challenging. How did the people developing the flavour arrive at the right
balance?
Kettle Chips: It’s tricky whenever we go after creating chips inspired by a very specific food (or in this case, beverage), but this one was especially challenging since there are such a wide range of flavor cues in the cocktail.
There’s no actual clam juice on these chips, but to make sure we were able to authentically replicate the cocktail we broke the drink down to its core, analyzing just how much spice and other flavors come through when you take a sip. It’s definitely a craft that takes some time to perfect – some flavors are more difficult than others.
HCV: Did Caesar lovers work on the flavour?
KC: Yes, it’s a popular cocktail around the Kettle innovation center so fans were involved! It definitely helps to have their input to ensure the essence of the flavor comes through just right.
HCV: How have the chips been received so far?
KC: Really well! We’ve heard from many fans that they think the chips taste just like the cocktail. Plus, Canadians seems to love that we kept true to our values of only using the highest-quality, Project Non-GMO Verified ingredients when making the flavor.

They let me know depending on popularity, we may see this chips on grocery store shelves beyond the summer months.
