I took a little detour into Oak Bay this morning. Despite the gale force winds, raging waves and pouring rain, my best pal and I decided to try to soak in the outdoor, ocean-side hot tub at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel for a seasonal treat. However, just as we paid for entrance to the pool, it was shut down due to waves crashing over the barriers and into the pools. We trooped out of the spa and outside to look down at what we were missing. Massive waves crashed into and over the glass walls, spilling into the pools. We stood beside a manager who watched anxiously - apparently four panes of glass were shattered last week by a storm. So, we headed up to the Snug Pub to watch the waves from inside. Their Caesar looks understated. It comes in a tall glass tumbler with a wedge of lime, pickled bean and a celery salt rim. The celery salt has some extra pepper and chili flakes in it, but the celery flavour is still primary. |
This was a pretty tasty Caesar. I like where the rim is headed, but I think they should go all out with it, ditch the celery salt and go for a lemony, peppery, chili, coarse salt combo.
It was a good way to start an afternoon of storm watching.
